Greece: Time to wean? Prepare for scream...

Hi friends ~
I've just come from Z's blog where there's a lively discussion, part of which is an argument (btwn. Frogburger & Ducky) about the cause of unemployment in Europe. And still another weave of the thread sports this bit about terrorism perpetrated by (guess who) 'Muslim youth' in suburban Paris - nightly car burnings, muggings, etc. Just garden variety crime; no harm, no foul... Hardly worth reporting, right?

Hardly.

My logic tells me there must be some correlation between European unemployment, civil unrest & Socialism (& maybe toss in a little terrorism, just for kicks?). As I see it, European-style Socialism has primed those pumps for decades (providing various social programs -look Ma, free health care!) and paved the way to this civil unrest.

I don't claim to be an especially business-headed thinker, but seems to me that governments who give People everything they need are CREATING their own cesspool of civil chaos. When a People is disincentivized toward striving for a better life: don't bother working, you'll still have everything you need (didn't Queen Pelosi say this recently?). Pursue your long-held passions! Don't worry about being productive. But should you choose to work and be productive...well, sorry. We'll swipe your wealth & spread it around. (Everybody's gotta eat, right?)

Sooner or later something's gonna give way: the Government cannot "sustain" that kind of behavior for long with other people's money. And then, everybody's gonna get @#$$%!, the 'haves' & the 'swiped-froms.' This is why Socialism is bad, bad, bad folks. It goes against the grain of our human need for being productive, and it ultimately sucks the life out of it's victims until there's no drive, productivity, fulfillment, jobs & no money left.

Don't believe me?

NEWS FLASH from Greece: from Investors.com
"Policy Failure: Greece was told that if it wanted a bailout, it needed to consider privatizing its government health care system. So tell us again why the U.S. is following Europe's welfare state model.

The requirement... is a tacit admission that national health care programs are unsustainable. Along with transportation and energy, the bailout group...wants the Greek government to remove 'the state from the marketplace in crucial sectors.'

This is not some cranky or politically motivated demand. It is a condition based on the ugly reality of government medicine. The Times reports that economists — not right-wingers opposed to health care who want to blow up Times Square — say liberalizing 'the health care industry would help bring down prices in these areas, which are among the highest in Europe.'

Of course most of the media have been largely silent about the health care privatization measure for Greece, as it conflicts with their universal, single-payer health care narrative."

And we ALL know what's happening in Greece right now over the 'austerity programs' (read: drastic cuts in bloated, treasury-sucking social programs). It only stood to reason, though...Attach a People to the government breast & nurse it for decades, sooner or later it'll be time to wean. And then the People are gonna screech like that squalling baby in the night who has been given a sippie cup instead of the breast. Only they'll be a lot bigger. And instead of cups they'll be heaving cocktails - molotav variety.

I quote again from the investor's.com article: "So tell us again why the U.S. is following Europe's welfare state model."

Well??

Reasonable question. No need for an indepth analysis of Entity Life History or Maximum Cardinality. Maybe I'm a business-headed thinker after all?

Nah, just plain old common sense.

Totally unsustainable. Especially with baby boomers are retiring and europe is not making babies at all. I think that's why the system is crashing even faster too. Add unemployment on top of that and it's the end.

Do you know that the PM of Greece ,George Papandreou was born in America, his mother is american and he got his education in America and Sweden? He has probably introduced in Greece a combination of american liberalism with swedish socialism, which could be deadly to the economy of any country.

Europe is the brains of the world ,they'll find a way out , but it has to be very bad before it's going to be good again.

FB~ Excellent point about the population dynamic changing. We have a bit of that here too, though not as much as in Europe. That'll cause an economic crash rather than a slow decline; you're right.

Duta~ I had no idea about Papandreou's background. Very astute observation, & fascinating...and deadly, indeed. I truly hope Europe will find a way out...but it sure can't be the road they've been on for so long. I think you're right, though, it'll get worse before it gets better...Take care, sweet lady.

Socialism is when the government steals from Peter to pay Paul and the government gets to decide who is Peter.

It's really amazing how the left sees no comparison at all! Why? They are arrogant enough to believe we can do socialism BETTER!

Disgusting!

It's amazing to watch people trying to squeeze blood out of turnip. But why shouldn't they. They were after all promised. Right? Of coarse the promises were so good that, evidently, no one considered the feasibility of their fulfilled, preferring instead to remain blissfully ignorant. Reality however is indifferent to such bliss. Perhaps they should now burn their own houses down for spite!

Mr. Z said this all the time..."Why are we doing what Europe's doing when Europe's not done so well?"

FB knows that the governments pay citizens to have more babies these days....imagine ours doing that? Well, we are, I suppose, paying for the births of illegals :-)

Janie, I can't tell you how many libs I've heard say "Socialism didn't work in Europe but we'll do it right" It's unbelievable.

What we really need to do, of course, is tax everybody at 100% and let the government decide who should get what based on his/her talent and ability.

Soon there would be no more to tax, as everybody would just quit working so as to get the government hand-out.

As Dr Adrian Rogers has said:

What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Crucis~ Indeed. And don't they say, "What Peter tells you about Paul tells you more about Peter than it does about Paul..."

We must be vigilant, watching what they say & do. Then speaking up about it!

JL~ Arrogant is right. (How the Left doesn't see this, I'll never know.) Yeah, we would do Socialism better...just make a 'better' wreck of things...

Dan~ Promises, promises...you'd think that people would get wise. There were actually people who voted these jerks in b/c they believed that they'd have no more mortgages or car payments. We've all seen that woman on Youtube, right? ugh.

Z~ But our government ALREADY pays people to have more babies. It's called Aid For Dependent Children (AFDC). When I worked in community mental health, I had a client tell me that she'd have as many babies as she wanted, 'cause the gov't would pay her for it. My supervisor (a Lefty) suggested that I try & help her adjust her attitude, as it was harming her children b/c she couldn't take care of them properly (go figure). What my supervisor DIDN'T get was that's like putting a bowl of food in front of a puppy & telling them not to eat it. Duh. Bait people, then try to tell them not to take the bait...sheesh.

Joe~ You're so right...the beginning of the end.

Heaven help us!
