Obama/Biden Know -- MSM is enemy of the People

It has been six weeks since our Ambassador and the other 3 Americans were murdered in Libya. It has been SIX WEEKS.

In 2001, within 4 weeks post-9-11 we were already bombing Afghanistan, bringing al-Qaeda to justice. Because we knew, and quickly.

This Administration watched the terrorist attack unfold in REAL TIME and did NOTHING. There is video-tape and audio-tape that is being suppressed by this Administration & worse, the Press is ignoring it. Let that sink in: the American Press corps is ignoring this story of National Security importance.

The American Consulate was literally burning, 4 Americans had been brutally murdered and Obama goes to VEGAS!

In the weeks since this brutal terrorist attack, our president has partied, campaigned, dodged, blamed Youtube, stonewalled, said 'we're still investigating' (see opening sentences 1-2 above). AND the Media has been right behind him, in front of him, underneath him, deflecting, suppressing, side-stepping this Administration's response. Fox News Channel is the ONLY major media outlet that is investigating & reporting the story. The Benghazi debacle may yet make Mitt Romney president.

Barely 10 days before the election, the persistent whiff of scandal surrounding Barack Obama exploded into the banner headlines of a cover-up – at least among certain press outlets. Everything changed Friday afternoon with the stunning revelations by Fox News that CIA operatives defending the embattled consulate in Benghazi, Libya, called three times for emergency assistance while the attack was in progress. Each time, they were shamefully turned down. One of those defenders, Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods, was apparently able to use a laser designator to pin-point the location of the mortar that eventually killed him. It would have been an easy shot for American pilots had any been ordered to respond. Another new and critical detail: An American drone was overhead transmitting live video of the battle scene below.


Only days before, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton airily dismissed new revelations of incriminating emails, also uncovered by Fox. Yet those messages provided startling proof of how Washington decision-makers – from the Pentagon to the White House Situation Room – must have known within minutes or hours that the incident in Benghazi was 9/11.2, the second successful al Qaeda attack on American soil. They also would have known that this well-coordinated assault killed the American ambassador to Libya, as well as three other Americans who fought valiantly to save him.

With all this information – from frantic messages sent by operators on the ground to highly detailed overhead battle-scene video – who invented the asinine idea that the attack was collateral damage from a flash-mob reacting to a provocative video? The record there is incriminating. For weeks afterward, the administration party-line was that the video, not al Qaeda, was responsible for the disaster, a major point of President Obama’s September speech to the United Nations. But when that story had morphed into an indefensible fiction, the party line shifted again, memorably summarized by Vice President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. during his debate with Congressman Paul Ryan: “We didn’t know” because the intelligence establishment was still beavering away.

With all due respect, Mr. Vice President and Madam Secretary: You did know, and so did the horse-holders you rode in on. You also knew that the night-time battle in far-off Benghazi made mincemeat out of the prevailing Obama campaign narrative, “Osama is dead and General Motors is alive!” You realized too late that inconvenient questions were certain to be raised about embassy security in Libya. After all, hadn’t the Library of Congress raised just those questions in an unclassified study only a month before? Worse yet, you also recognized that, wanting to keep a low profile on the anniversary of September 11, no American forces had been placed on alert, despite the Libyan power vacuum.

So you concocted the next best and the most politically correct cover story: the flash-mob video. With unrest everywhere in the aftermath of the Arab Spring, the flash-mob story must have been seized upon with all the fervor of a drowning man grasping at oars – or straws. You could make all the right noises about deploring mob violence and anything critical of Islam. We’re the good guys, remember? To make sure everyone understood, you even sent out U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice to spread the cover story on the usual TV talk shows. An ambassador is classically thought of as an honest man sent abroad to lie for his country. In her assigned role, Ms. Rice reached a new gender frontier right here at home.

What could go wrong, especially since the mainstream media was munching like well-fed bovines on anything White House spokesman Jay Carney obligingly dished out? Well, nothing, except that Americans had died at the hands of terrorists and our intelligence establishment knew the truth the Obama administration was trying so hard to conceal. With too many people in too many headquarters, the truth has an inconvenient way of leaking, especially when you’re dumb enough to blame those self-same spooks.

The president keeps trying to cover up his mistakes, and the press establishment is determined to look away, despite the cascading contradictions. Fortunately, Fox News, derided by the media establishment as Faux News, investigated what others ignored. And on a Friday afternoon, just when we were contemplating hurricanes, World Series and a deadlocked electoral race, they may have even changed American history.

The president must now answer for the misdeeds his subordinates and his media allies tried so hard to cover up. Col. Ken Allard, retired from the Army, is a former NBC News military analyst and author on national security issues.

This president must answer, indeed. We the People must insist on getting those answers. Then we must gather the fortitude to kick this disgraceful Administration out of Washington DC, and send their Media sycophants out with them.

Israel: The Miracle Soldier

On Facebook, I'm 'friends' with the organization United with Israel.

Their June 12th post tells the story of a "fresh groom named Aharon Karov, sent to the frontlines of the Gaza war in 2008* a day after his wedding. He was critically injured by a bomb blast during the first days of the war...'The injuries were very bad, but in the end there was no injury to the brain,'...Today Aharon is healthy and his recovery has been hailed as nothing short of miraculous, especially in light of early predictions he would not survive at all."






For most of us, war is an utterly remote concept about which we fancifully form opinions - sometimes based on the whims of pop culture. We have no idea what it's like living your life in a daily battle for the very ground under your feet. Young Mr. & Mrs. Karov do, & I stand with them.

Obama on Israel: Indefensible.

Mr. Obama has no idea what he's doing. His statements on Israel's 1967 borders, & then his swift backpeddling over the weekend reveal his ineptitude on Israeli foreign policy - foreign policy generally.

His remarks on Israel were indefensible, metaphorically speaking: there's NO DEFENSE for his position, no spin that can explain away how WRONG he is about this. And quite literally, there's NO DEFENSE for Israel, should Mr. Obama get his way (heaven help us, all).

Barack Obama speech after killing of bin Laden:

"And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network. Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden. It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread to ground. I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of Pakistan . And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice. Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad , Pakistan."

Shame on you! Bin Laden's dead...

Hi friends~
I've been on Facebook a lot lately, working on my writing stuff: making lots of good connections with other writers, editors, etc.

I've learned that FB doesn't have to be all about, "I'm having a latte @ Starbuck's. Wish you were here!" or "In the grocery, picking up pork chops..." Thank goodness, b/c no form of social media could be any sillier, or useless, in my opinion. Besides, who CARES?

Which brings me an NPR article that I found just now on FB: "Cheering the End of Bin Laden: Let the Kids Yell." You may guess I'm not high on National Public Radio as a media source, but this article is a solid voice in that wilderness. Please read the short piece & tell me what you think...

And just because you're here, this is my take:

I absolutely, wholeheartedly, without question agree with her assessment. This is esp. to the point: "But I think people are mistaking relief and a release of fear and collective breath-holding for hate."

It's just plain BORING to me to see the Media playing to such type that they can't "get" the real reason people are cheering. (As if they - the Media- are above being human, eschewing simpleton's emotion...). Any rational, fair minded person will not cheer & jeer death. This is far too serious a matter for that. However, there is something in our collective consciousness that acknowledges justice served -- and why not?


Are we not human?

And are we to be shamed for our humanity?


If so, I find myself duly shamed. But that doesn't mean I'll wear it.

Lt. Col. Allen West: the enemy we face.

During a panel discussion sponsored by the Hudson Institute last January, retired Army Lt. Colonel Allen West, who did combat duty in Iraq, responded to a Marine who asked the question, how do you answer people who say that terrorists are following a "warped" version of Islam?

The panel consisted of a number of former military personnel, who fumbled around trying to answer the question. Col. West finally stepped forward answered the question directly and truthfully. Listen to the words of a former military man who understands the nature of the enemy we face:



Notice again Col. West's straightforward assessment: "This is not a perversion. They are doing exactly what this book [i.e., the Qur'an] says."

Lt. Col. West was elected to Congress in November, to represent Florida's 22nd congressional district. He will be the first African-American Republican congressman to represent Florida since 1870.

TSA Problem Solved!

Great Idea; solves the current TSA problem...

The Israelis are developing an airport security device that eliminates the privacy concerns of full-body scanners. They say it's a booth you step into that does not X-ray, but it detonates any explosive device you may have on your person.

They see this as a win-win for everyone, with none of the whining about racial profiling. It also would eliminate the costs of long, expensive trials for terror 'suspects.' Justice would be swift. Case closed!

Here's how you'll know it's working~~ You're in the airport terminal checking your bags, & you hear a muffled explosion. Shortly thereafter an announcement comes over the PA system:

"Attention standby passengers,
we now have a seat available on flight number ____.
Shalom."

The Last Refuge of a Liberal

Liberalism under siege is an ugly sight indeed. Just yesterday it was all hope and change and returning power to the people. But the people have proved so disappointing. Their recalcitrance has, in only 19 months, turned the predicted 40-year liberal ascendancy (James Carville) into a full retreat. Ah, the people, the little people, the small-town people, the "bitter" people, as Barack Obama in an unguarded moment once memorably called them, clinging "to guns or religion" or -- this part is less remembered -- "antipathy toward people who aren't like them."

That's a polite way of saying: clinging to bigotry. And promiscuous charges of bigotry are precisely how our current rulers and their vast media auxiliary react to an obstreperous citizenry that insists on incorrect thinking.

-- Resistance to the vast expansion of government power, intrusiveness and debt, as represented by the Tea Party movement? Why, racist resentment toward a black president.

-- Disgust and alarm with the federal government's unwillingness to curb illegal immigration, as crystallized in the Arizona law? Nativism.

-- Opposition to the most radical redefinition of marriage in human history, as expressed in Proposition 8 in California? Homophobia.

-- Opposition to a 15-story Islamic center and mosque near Ground Zero? Islamophobia.

Now we know why the country has become "ungovernable," last year's excuse for the Democrats' failure of governance: Who can possibly govern a nation of racist, nativist, homophobic Islamophobes?

Note what connects these issues. In every one, liberals have lost the argument in the court of public opinion. Majorities -- often lopsided majorities -- oppose President Obama's social-democratic agenda (e.g., the stimulus, Obamacare), support the Arizona law, oppose gay marriage and reject a mosque near Ground Zero.

What's a liberal to do? Pull out the bigotry charge, the trump that preempts debate and gives no credit to the seriousness and substance of the contrary argument. The most venerable of these trumps is, of course, the race card. When the Tea Party arose, a spontaneous, leaderless and perfectly natural (and traditionally American) reaction to the vast expansion of government intrinsic to the president's proudly proclaimed transformational agenda, the liberal commentariat cast it as a mob of angry white yahoos disguising their antipathy to a black president by cleverly speaking in economic terms.

Then came Arizona and S.B. 1070. It seems impossible for the left to believe that people of good will could hold that: (a) illegal immigration should be illegal, (b) the federal government should not hold border enforcement hostage to comprehensive reform, i.e., amnesty, (c) every country has the right to determine the composition of its immigrant population.

As for Proposition 8, is it so hard to see why people might believe that a single judge overturning the will of 7 million voters is an affront to democracy? And that seeing merit in retaining the structure of the most ancient and fundamental of all social institutions is something other than an alleged hatred of gays -- particularly since the opposite-gender requirement has characterized virtually every society in all the millennia until just a few years ago?

And now the mosque near Ground Zero. The intelligentsia is near unanimous that the only possible grounds for opposition is bigotry toward Muslims. This smug attribution of bigotry to two-thirds of the population hinges on the insistence on a complete lack of connection between Islam and radical Islam, a proposition that dovetails perfectly with the Obama administration's pretense that we are at war with nothing more than "violent extremists" of inscrutable motive and indiscernible belief. Those who reject this as both ridiculous and politically correct (an admitted redundancy) are declared Islamophobes, the ad hominem du jour.

It is a measure of the corruption of liberal thought and the collapse of its self-confidence that, finding itself so widely repudiated, it resorts reflexively to the cheapest race-baiting (in a colorful variety of forms). Indeed, how can one reason with a nation of pitchfork-wielding mobs brimming with "antipathy toward people who aren't like them" -- blacks, Hispanics, gays and Muslims -- a nation that is, as Michelle Obama once put it succinctly, "just downright mean"?

The Democrats are going to get beaten badly in November. Not just because the economy is ailing. And not just because Obama over-read his mandate in governing too far left. But because a comeuppance is due the arrogant elites whose undisguised contempt for the great unwashed prevents them from conceding a modicum of serious thought to those who dare oppose them.

Professor T.J. Joseph was attacked on July 4 in while returning home from Sunday mass with his mother and sister, a Catholic nun...the attackers used the vehicle to block Joseph’s car before dragging the professor from his vehicle and chopping off his right hand. The attackers then threw the hand away before fleeing.

Church-managed Newman College in Thodupuzha had suspended Joseph, its Malayalam professor, on March 25 for allegedly preparing a question paper with insulting references to the Prophet Muhammad.

St. Joseph Sister Mary Stella said the assailants attacked her brother with an axe and swords.
“They also attacked our elderly mother,” before fleeing, she said...


But don’t worry though. At least our tax dollars being sent to NASA will help with the so called “Muslim outreach” that Obama has turned NASA into.

This is who our country elected. Did we not SEE who he was??

We'd better see it NOW, people.

It's time to shut this operation DOWN, & take back our country!
Vote in November, cut off the $$! Repeal the damage that has been done. And never, EVER go down this road again.

Greece: Time to wean? Prepare for scream...

Hi friends ~
I've just come from Z's blog where there's a lively discussion, part of which is an argument (btwn. Frogburger & Ducky) about the cause of unemployment in Europe. And still another weave of the thread sports this bit about terrorism perpetrated by (guess who) 'Muslim youth' in suburban Paris - nightly car burnings, muggings, etc. Just garden variety crime; no harm, no foul... Hardly worth reporting, right?

Hardly.

My logic tells me there must be some correlation between European unemployment, civil unrest & Socialism (& maybe toss in a little terrorism, just for kicks?). As I see it, European-style Socialism has primed those pumps for decades (providing various social programs -look Ma, free health care!) and paved the way to this civil unrest.

I don't claim to be an especially business-headed thinker, but seems to me that governments who give People everything they need are CREATING their own cesspool of civil chaos. When a People is disincentivized toward striving for a better life: don't bother working, you'll still have everything you need (didn't Queen Pelosi say this recently?). Pursue your long-held passions! Don't worry about being productive. But should you choose to work and be productive...well, sorry. We'll swipe your wealth & spread it around. (Everybody's gotta eat, right?)

Sooner or later something's gonna give way: the Government cannot "sustain" that kind of behavior for long with other people's money. And then, everybody's gonna get @#$$%!, the 'haves' & the 'swiped-froms.' This is why Socialism is bad, bad, bad folks. It goes against the grain of our human need for being productive, and it ultimately sucks the life out of it's victims until there's no drive, productivity, fulfillment, jobs & no money left.

"Policy Failure: Greece was told that if it wanted a bailout, it needed to consider privatizing its government health care system. So tell us again why the U.S. is following Europe's welfare state model.

The requirement... is a tacit admission that national health care programs are unsustainable. Along with transportation and energy, the bailout group...wants the Greek government to remove 'the state from the marketplace in crucial sectors.'

This is not some cranky or politically motivated demand. It is a condition based on the ugly reality of government medicine. The Times reports that economists — not right-wingers opposed to health care who want to blow up Times Square — say liberalizing 'the health care industry would help bring down prices in these areas, which are among the highest in Europe.'

Of course most of the media have been largely silent about the health care privatization measure for Greece, as it conflicts with their universal, single-payer health care narrative."

And we ALL know what's happening in Greece right now over the 'austerity programs' (read: drastic cuts in bloated, treasury-sucking social programs). It only stood to reason, though...Attach a People to the government breast & nurse it for decades, sooner or later it'll be time to wean. And then the People are gonna screech like that squalling baby in the night who has been given a sippie cup instead of the breast. Only they'll be a lot bigger. And instead of cups they'll be heaving cocktails - molotav variety.

I quote again from the investor's.com article: "So tell us again why the U.S. is following Europe's welfare state model."

Well??

Reasonable question. No need for an indepth analysis of Entity Life History or Maximum Cardinality. Maybe I'm a business-headed thinker after all?

Nah, just plain old common sense.

In which Islam dictates America...

Hi friends~

I’ve posted several pieces concerning Islam & America, because it worries me. It's eerie to watch the influence of a religion/culture that hates us weaving its way into our society, using Civil Liberties (& tax dollars) to demand special accommodation. It's even more frightening to observe our President bow to Islamic leaders, deny our Christian heritage , & be received by the Muslim world with standing ovation, as one of their own.

Where has all the obsequious cow-towing gotten us? As National Review Online’s Mark Steyn says,

“Barack Obama has spent the last year doing bigtime Islamoschmoozing, from his announcement of Gitmo’s closure and his investigation of Bush officials, to his bow before the Saudi King, and a speech in Cairo to 'the Muslim world' with far too many rhetorical concessions and equivocations. And at the end of it, the jihad sent America a thank-you note by way of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab’s underwear: Hey, thanks for all the outreach! But we’re still gonna kill you.”

What’s most frightening is the blatant, unblushing denial, by B. Hussein Obama, of Islamic terrorism from within our military .

People. This man is our President.

Many ‘lay persons’ deny the threat of terrorism rising from within our borders, but when our PRESIDENT does so, after the cold-blooded murder of our citizens, we are in deep trouble. There is no political correctness to account for that kind of blindness, because it isn’t blindness, it’s complicity.

The body politic did us proud in MA recently, by showing we’ve awakened to the Leftist agenda of this president. We must awaken to MUCH more, if we are going to quell the rising threat of Islam against our nation. If we don’t, God in heaven help us.

Please examine this evidence of the serpentine nature of militant Islam. Decide for yourself:

GS Don Morris, Ph.D writes a blog called Doc’s talk . In a 2008 post , he excerpts from Dr. Peter Hammond's book Slavery, Terrorism and Islam the template used by Islam for usurping control of a society:

"Islamization is a process; it can happen remotely. Its success is largely dependent on appeasement from the host country.

Islam has religious, legal, political, economic and military components. The religious component is a beard for all the other components.

Islamization occurs when there are sufficient Muslims in a country to agitate for their so-called 'religious rights.'

When politically correct & culturally diverse societies agree to 'the reasonable' Muslim demands for their 'religious rights,' they also get the other components under the table.

As long as the Muslim population remains around 1% of any given country they will be regarded as a peace-loving minority…In fact, they may be featured in articles and films, stereotyped for their colorful uniqueness:

Canada -- Muslim 1.9%
China -- Muslim 1%-2%
Italy -- Muslim 1.5%
Norway -- Muslim 1.8%

At 2% and 3% they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs:

Germany -- Muslim 3.7%
United Kingdom -- Muslim 2. 7%
Spain -- Muslim 4%
Thailand -- Muslim 4.6%

From 5% on they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. They will push for the introduction of halaal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature it on their shelves -- along with threats for failure to comply. (United States).

France -- Muslim 8%
Philippines -- Muslim 5%
Sweden -- Muslim 5%
Switzerland -- Muslim 4.3%
The Netherlands -- Muslim 5.5%
Trinidad & Tobago -- Muslim 5.8%

At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves under Sharia, the Islamic Law. The ultimate goal of Islam is not to convert the world but to establish Sharia law over the entire world. When Muslims reach 10% of the population, they will increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions (Paris -- car-burnings). Any non-Muslim action that offends Islam will result in uprisings and threats (Amsterdam -- Mohammed cartoons).

Guyana -- Muslim 10%
India -- Muslim 13.4%
Israel -- Muslim 16%
Kenya -- Muslim 10%
Russia -- Muslim 10-15%

After reaching 20% expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings and church/synagogue burning:

Ethiopia -- Muslim 32.8%

At 40% you will find widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks and ongoing militia warfare:

Bosnia -- Muslim 40%
Chad -- Muslim 53.1%
Lebanon -- Muslim 59.7%

Friends I ask you, is Sharia creeping? Or is the ‘path to water’ steamrolling its way across our fruited plain, as we dither 'while Rome burns?'
We’d better decide, because with a president whose fealty lies with that enemy it will be a numbers game. Numbers in the population, numbers in legislative chambers, numbers on the time-piece of our own history. Research it for yourself, if you like.

Of Fort Hood Speeches & Gestalt Moments

My friend James, @ Musical Musings posted Mr. Obama's speech from the Fort Hood Memorial Service.

Lovely speech. Nice touches referencing each person individually. Well done, Mr. President. You've proven to be an impressive speaker - again...

The speech was well deserved by those in attendance & those who, sadly, are no longer with us. But I submit the following: anybody w/ charisma & camera-friendly face can schmooze out somebody else's words. Anybody can be coached on how to feign 'appropriate' affect & somber tenor when delivering a rehearsed eulogy. My concern is not what this man did on a stage at a solemn event, where every move was prescribed. My concern is what he did/didn't do in response to a live-action terrorist attack.

A commenter to James tried to make this point, albeit with great gusto, & was dismissed as immature & a disgrace. The following was, & still is, my contention with that dismissal:

In the moment of discovery of the Fort Hood massacre (it was NOT a "tragedy," it was a TERRORIST act perpetrated by a self-proclaimed SOA - soldier of Allah), Mr. Obama took the stage at a Native American Conference. It took him 60 full seconds to even mention the massacre.

A full 60 seconds: wherein he casually thanked his staff, conference organizers, gave congratulations to attendees for their 'extremely productive conference' and also gave a "shout out" to a medal winner!! ---- NONE as critical as 12 DEAD soldiers, massacred in cold blood, perp'd by one of our own personnel, who, btw just happened to be muslim & happened to have SCREAMED 'Allahu Akbar' seconds before he blew his fellow soldiers away. (But never mind that.)

And though my friends @ the other blog were involved in congratulating BHO (& each other) on his eloquent speech, I emphasized that I frankly don't give a flip what Mr. O said at the Memorial Service. He could have sung "The Rainbow Connection" while doin' the Charleston, for all I care about his performance.

See, what the Left misses is that leadership, strength & compassion are defined by what a person does/says when they're operating out of their own spontaneous, raw character. That's what matters, not some eloquence dribbled into a microphone, read off a teleprompter.

Last Thursday we were scared, & were all replaying tapes of 9-11. We needed immediate, heartfelt Leadership. We needed what Martin Buber calls "the I/Thou" relationship moment; the basis for Fritz Perls' Gestalt Therapy . "The experience involves an appreciation of & a respect for the reality of the Other." It's based on being 'in the moment,' where one intimately identifies with another's circumstances to effect a reciprocal bond of trust, & to foster transformative healing.

And this guy, this guy showed himself in that moment to be a detached, cool, emotionless (even cavalier), unsympathetic (except to muslims), calculating Disconnect. Who but the same can trust or bond with THAT?

Mr. O gave a lovely speech 5 days later. All the families deserved it - as did the departed. But in his Gestalt, in his defining moment, Mr. O showed he cannot produce I/Thou. And when you're incapable of that, all you've got left is I/Me.

Who, again, is the disgrace?

Remember?

The fervor over Pam’s recent post (about 9-11 & Remembrance thereof) started me thinking…Dear one that she is, Pam & I exchanged some email, sharing bits about our own 9-11-01 experiences. Yesterday, as I typed my last few lines to her, a nagging sense of familiarity tugged the back of my mind…Then like the pop of a broken light bulb, my memory jolted alert: I’ve written a piece about this!

At the end of this month, "Get the Big Idea" will turn 1 year old. In my first post, Primary Perspectives , I told the blog world that I’d been “writing for some time with a sense of discovery & anticipation, & with a notion that perhaps I have something to say.” Back in early 2007, (pre-blogging) I wrote a piece for a little 'contest' that was supposed to be a 'personal memoir.' Today, the irony of that "memoir's" timely subject is not lost on me, & I’d like to share it with you, very close to its original form, edited only for length/clarity:

Remember Who You Are

Here and now, this may seem a tired incident about which to speak. It may even seem cliché. Some may believe it’s not ‘fresh and new,’ that it’s been overdone, that it’s now passé. My perspective is different. As I examine the brand it has left on me, I hope that God and reason forbids we ever become the hardened, soulless people who could forget the world-shattering shock of it, the cold, calculated, slithering evil of it. God forbid that we dismiss the lasting impressions of what that day did to us, in favor of the next new thing. Surely we won’t. Please tell me, someone, that we’re a people who can cull and sift wisdom from the wreckage and allow it to sear our souls. Tell me that we can become a more convicted nation, looking deeper into ourselves and each other than surface reflection permits.

It all seems, in a way, like a gathering thunderstorm. There was, or must have been, the low rumbling growl. I didn’t hear it, but someone must have. I never saw the approaching thunderhead. I never heard the snarling undertone. But when the onslaught came, there seemed no shelter left to seek.

It could not have been a more splendid day. In my home two little boys dressed for swimming, and I was busy with the machinations of early morning. Daddy had been gone for hours.

Our trip to the Y was commonplace. We were late, at 9:05 am. Another mother slid in beside me on the bench, “Did you hear anything about a plane crashing into the World Trade Center?” she asked.

“What…? Um, no. I didn’t hear,” was my response.
“My husband called me in the car,” she said. “He says a plane crashed into the towers…pilot had a heart attack or something…”
“Hmm. Strange,” was all I offered.

Swim lesson over, & on our way to the library, we stopped for gas. The attendant gave a warning, “Ma’am, you’d better fill up. We may not get any more for days.”

“What…?” I heard echoes of my own voice, an eerie déjà vu snaking up through my awareness.

The radio, ever tuned to news-talk, was crackling with bits and snatches of a story too confusing and unbelievable to be real. The whole dial was swarming with reporters reading fluttering press releases. Descriptions of scenes came from stammering, bewildered voices sketching out the implausible, unimaginable carnage.

“My God...” My gasp was not an expletive; it was a guttural plea. “Oh, my God…”

I drove home through the debris-field of talk radio, trying to make sense of it, with two very normal, oblivious boys in the back seat. Our library, a government building, had closed. Our airport, where my in-laws were to have flown out just that morning, was closed; air traffic locked down. Our own small city --our life-- had suddenly shrunk in around us.

In my own home, unfathomable images violated my TV screen, piercing the heart of our quiet, safe life. Images of destruction, annihilation, and death billowed into our home. My husband & I sat watching in silent awe. Nothing we had ever known had prepared us for this.

The following days and weeks revealed desperation, searing grief, and truly valiant heroism. Officials from all political angles displayed a unity never seen in my lifetime. With remarkable determination, they laid aside agendas to collaborate with angry solidarity for the greater good. For the first time in my thirty-three years, I got it. Along with the tragedy & bitter-sweet heroism, these days revealed the hidden portrait of our American Republic in its purest form. We were, in September 2001, through terrible tragedy, remembering who we are.

I watched my America & our people in action: political enemies embracing; politically correct labels falling away; men, women, & children on their knees seeking God. These things filled me with a love for my country and her people that I had never before experienced. I was never more proud to be American.

Here and now, in the time since 9-11, do we still remember how incredibly exceptional our America is? From that horrible wreckage, what wisdom have we culled & sifted for her? Our Founding Fathers could never have envisioned her modern predicament, but their inspired wisdom laid the foundation for who she is. Have we remembered? Will we allow the lasting impression of that day to instill in us a remembrance of who we’re supposed to be? Oh, I hope so. Someone, please tell me so.

As for me? I am insignificant in a sea of harsh realities. But I am one, & have been branded nonetheless. The imprint of 9-11-01 drives me to live the change that I want to see. I will hold up hope toward each day humbly, & with deep, soul-aching gratitude. I will fiercely cherish those whom I love, knowing that today’s breath could be tomorrow’s memory. I will be gracious to strangers who cross my path, mindful that I, too, am a stranger. And I will add my voice to the conversation of our time, because its dialogue invokes the gravity of our very survival.

On 9-11-01 all pretense was stripped away, and what remained was naked principle. Thus, as a child of the exceptional Republic, an American woman, I will no longer remain silent in my convictions. I will be thankful; and I will remember who I am.

Miranda said it: The War's Over!

Congratulations everybody! No more security worries, no more hyper-vigilance. Start waving your flags; let’s have a huge ticker-tape parade!! THE WAR ON TERROR IS OVER!!!

Mr. Obama has declared it, so it must happen! What…you didn’t hear? On Wed. June 10th, Mr. Obama’s Justice Department “quietly ordered FBI agents to read Miranda rights to high value detainees captured and held at U.S. detention facilities in Afghanistan.”

Mr. Terrorist,who just planted a roadside bomb that killed 12 soldiers, who has just planned a massive plot on American power grid systems, who just abducted an Israeli journalist & beheaded him for Al Qaeda’s next video

"You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to speak to an attorney, and to have an attorney present during any questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be provided for you at government expense."

What? You don’t understand? It’s not a war anymore – for us anyway. You’ll be housed, fed, clothed until your tri-lingual attorney gets his US Govt. $$ & travels to see you. You’re no longer our enemy…

What? I’m still YOUR enemy? Now, now, settle down…We like to say you were misguided into a life of crime. You’re a product of your environment, see?

No. We’re not going to extract information from you to save millions of American lives. We’re not gonna “take you out!” We’re not gonna even detain you! Don’t let what you’ve heard scare you…

Oh, you mean this? At minute 1:58 when Obama smirked @ Gov. Palin’s accusation, “Mr. Obama is less interested in protecting you from terrorists than reading them their rights.”
Ha! Ha! Joke, joke…that sure was funny…

…and then @ minute 2:58, “My position has always been clear. If you’ve got a terrorist, take ‘em out; take ‘em out. Anybody who was involved in 9-11, take ‘em out..” Just forget all that.

Oh. I know he said it again two months after his inauguration, “Now, do these folks deserve miranda rights? Do they deserve to be treated like a shoplifter down the block? Of course not.”


I know…Mr. Bush “considered counter-terrorism operations an intelligence or military issue, not a law enforcement one…But, under Obama's new ‘global justice’ plan, the goal is to ensure that all suspected terrorists can be tried in a U.S. or foreign court of law.”

Does anybody else know about this? Not yet. They sure will think it’s terrific, though. The Obama administration has never informed Congress of the Miranda policy.”

So, just sit back & relax. No waterboarding for you, no telling us your secret hideouts.

What? You’d like to call you friends & give the signal for your next attack? I guess so…Everybody is entitled to one phone call. I’ll be right back. Want me to get you some coffee, too?

Friends, Mr. Obama made a big joke of Mrs. Palin’s warning that US Miranda rights would be offered to our enemy, that his priority would be mirandizing ‘criminals’ rather than securing our nation from TERRORISTS! He scoffed, smirked & drank in the adoring crowd as he joked @ Mrs. Palin’s expense.

Now, no less than 10 months later, after scoffing at the suggestion again in February, he secretly gives the order to FBI & CIA, "Read them their rights…"

Their rights? Rights conveyed upon citizens of our country under the US Constitution? Rights to TERRORISTS, with whom we are at WAR?? Who’d rather blow us ALL up than see the sunrise again?

We were in a war for the survival of our Nation. We were in the fight for our very lives. Now it’s just another episode of CSI.

It's all such a joke, friends. This time, it seems, the joke is on us.

He can be taught...

He did the right thing. The Captain is safe. The pirates are dead.

We on the Right can question his motives, his timing, the political angle & make a big deal about it…but it’s wasted energy & diminishes us; makes us look like the Bush-hating Left. So don’t do it. Please.

There was a crisis. It needed to be handled quickly & fiercely, showing the world that America will not tolerate such. The rest of the world can continue to pay ransoms if they choose. They can continue to be held hostage by rogues & pirates, but we will not.

The concentric circles of this action will show in time, & we can follow them, commenting when necessary. The crucial point, though, is that he did the right thing. He allowed our best & finest-trained to care of business in searing fashion. Hallelujah!

There’s a lot to be thankful for, folks: 1) We have the world’s most brilliantly trained military personnel – three shots, in the DARK, perfection. Wow. 2) Our President is the most Left-wing liberal we’ve ever had, but in a pinch - he can be taught.

Thank you, Navy Seals for your courageous & outstanding service. What would we do without you? Thank you, Mr. President for going against your superior judgment & doing the right thing.

Now, I’m off to make some posters. I’ve got a Tea Party to attend…

Sharia Law: Coming soon to a country near you.

Have you wondered what our friends the Brits have gotten themselves into by allowing Sharia Law into their legal system ? Ever wondered what the implications for women would be if it were to be allowed in the US? I was inspired into a little research by USA_Admiral .

Do the research yourself & find that Muslims in Britain have pushed for decades to get Sharia law infused into the legal system. They finally wore down ‘the establishment’. In an apathetic climate, I dare say it’s an easy slide to a rise in theocratic ‘power’. And where does it go after that?

Ladies, especially you who value the power that our society affords you, I beg you to ask yourself if political correctness & pacifism is worth this: CAUTION-disturbing video

If Mr. Obama (& even Pres. Bush) still wish to insist that Islam is a religion of peace, then where is the OUTRAGE in the 'peaceful' Muslim community? Where is the United Nations resolution demanding that terrorist groups & Islamo-fascists cease this perversion of their faith? Where are the moderate, clear-thinking clerics? The American Feminists?? Listen. Carefully. Do you hear it? I don't either. Silence...

Nobody’s willing to say it; & if they do, they’re afraid of becoming a Benazir Bhutto. With this threat seething in terrorist-phile nations & slinking through modern Western societies, we desperately need heroes – people willing to publicly challenge Islamic theocrats who stoke, plot & finance terrorism. Our own Presidents have, & still are, denying the threat.

Benazir Bhutto was a hero, a martyr (if you will) for civilized society.
Here’s another one. She gets precious little news coverage (or none @ all), but her voice is strong & unequivocal ~~ Zohreh Arshadi: Ms Arshadi was a practicing lawyer in Iran prior to her forced exile to Europe. She is currently an advocate in France and is active in human rights and especially of the rights of women. She has been especially active in
defense of the rights of women in Iran.


In the excerpts from her article “Islamic Republic of Iran and Penal Codes”, she articulates Islamic Penal codes (i.e., Sharia Law). The Islamic Revolution of the 1970’s caused the “Restructuring [of] society on the basis of violence and sexual apartheid…What the clerics ruling Iran call an Islamic society and government denotes an underlying model that in two decades has brought about huge upheavals in the political, cultural, legal and ideological structures of Iranian society. This model can best be described by its two principal features: An administration based on naked repression and violence, and a society based on inequalities of gender, religion, politics and reinforced by a steadily widening class divide.

The theoretical foundation of the Islamic Penal Codes is a social model based on sexual apartheid….a belief that women are deficient in their natural and “innate” potentials and abilities, including their psychological-makeup and intellectual capacity. Second, a belief in a social and family order where men must be guardians over women, and women must submit. Third, a belief in an unequal system of rights…The Islamic Penal Codes are based on violence in its most primitive forms. These not only authorise organised state violence, but encourage male violence against women within the family and in society.”

Ms. Arshadi itemizes the legal Codes (Books, Chapters, Articles) which “give legal shelter to sexual apartheid”: We have…had women removed from the courts as legal specialists. Their absence in legal procedures and criminal courts means that misogynist and biased views of the law are put into practice with greater severity and force, and occasionally even added to, by male attorneys and judges most of whom are also priests. The Islamic punishments have encouraged a culture of violence against women, especially within the family and has spilled into violence against children…The fact that men receive a lighter punishment if they commit a violence against women undoubtedly encourages such violence. We saw how women could be killed with impunity...Stoning to death for adultery, although technically admissible for both sexes, has also been carried out mainly against women. Newspapers are full of accounts of wives, sisters, daughters, and children murdered...The family has become an institution of violence.

These are laws which in their entirety are more in keeping with a society still in the age of barbarism. At a time when most countries are banning the death penalty to have punishments such as cutting of hands, and feet, stoning to death, cutting off of tongues and gouging out eyes on the statutes is totally unacceptable.”


We need more heroes. This woman, living in exile from her own country, knowing the danger she brings upon herself, is willing to speak. We need more of her.

We. Need. More. Heroes.

Research. Think. Speak.

Mumbai

On another blog, I happened upon some commentary about the Mumbai, India story. In the blog commentary, a contributor made a case for not blaming Islam in the whole terrorists-who-want-to-kill-the-world thing (light-hearted tone intentional). After all, Hitler claimed himself a Christian, but we don't blame Christianity for the Holocaust.

Now, I’m a reasonable person. I know there are few bad apples in every cart. But using the sense God graciously scraped up for me, & falling back on my oh-so-human-nature, wouldn't I be foolish NOT to be suspicious of the rest of those apples, especially when I make my pie? Here’s what the commenter said:

“Who killed most innocent people? Of course it was Hitler. He was a Christian. For this, can we blame Christianity? No we can’t. Nowhere in the holy Bible written, kill innocent people. Terrorists inside the mask of Muslim want to destroy Islam.”

And here’s my point:

Thanks for the reminder about Hitler. Though, am I mistaken? Did Hitler scream "God is Great" while murdering Jews? Did he execute his brand of human cleansing (God have mercy...) in the name of Christianity? No eyewitness here, but somehow, I don't think so. I'm no scholar of Islam, but all the evidence to date points to some of its adherents skewing it toward absolutely murderous ends (& claiming the religion as their impetus). Meanwhile, others of its adherents are NOT DEMANDING THAT IT STOP!

So. Hitler was a horrendous blight on the face of Germany (& humanity, if we're honest). But what he did - it seems to me - was in the name of conceited, racist, narcissistic, molten hate; not in the name of Christianity. Thus, you're right, commenting friend. We cannot blame the religion that Hitler claimed, but we could perhaps blame a Germany that allowed Nazism to reign...and wouldn't WWII era folks have been right to suspect, surveil, & be wary of the average German? (Come on, now; we deny survival instincts at our own peril.)

Because terrorist claims & my instincts are all I have to go on, I have to take them at their word, believing they kill in the name of Islam. I have to believe them. It’s a matter of self preservation & survival.

So commenting friend, I'll beg to differ with you. As I see it, terrorists don't want to destroy Islam, as you assert. They want to destroy everything that is NOT Islam.

What does this mean for us? Are we to hate Muslims? Certainly not, & heaven forbid. But are we to wait in the wings, watching the 'cleansing' play out, ignoring that it is being done in the name of Islam? Certainly not, & heaven forbid, truly. If Hitler’s case can be used as an object lesson here, it should be as a mirror, to show us our mistakes. History tells us that the Nazi offenders were initially ignored, then cajoled & placated (i.e., standard fare diplomacy), instead of identified, confronted & stood down. The 'global community' of the 30's & early 40's were cowards, until they finally quit hitting snooze & woke up. The ultimate cost of their cowardice would become upwards of 10 million lives & a global war.

Let's use our friend's suggestion & consider Hitler, knowing we can use it to mirror our former selves. How will we respond? How will Muslims worldwide respond? As so many Germans did - quietly, softly whispering their discomfort? or even joining in as the movement mounted steam? How will the global community respond this time? Swiftly, & in no uncertain terms, I hope, but it seems that 'standard fare diplomacy' may be back in fashion.

Even if I'm the only one sounding the buzzer (& I know I'm not), I'm saying it’s time to wake up again, people. ALL people - Christians, Muslims, Jews - all. Don't you hear it? The alarm clock has been blaring for quite some time.
