Lt. Col. Allen West: the enemy we face.

During a panel discussion sponsored by the Hudson Institute last January, retired Army Lt. Colonel Allen West, who did combat duty in Iraq, responded to a Marine who asked the question, how do you answer people who say that terrorists are following a "warped" version of Islam?

The panel consisted of a number of former military personnel, who fumbled around trying to answer the question. Col. West finally stepped forward answered the question directly and truthfully. Listen to the words of a former military man who understands the nature of the enemy we face:

Notice again Col. West's straightforward assessment: "This is not a perversion. They are doing exactly what this book [i.e., the Qur'an] says."

Lt. Col. West was elected to Congress in November, to represent Florida's 22nd congressional district. He will be the first African-American Republican congressman to represent Florida since 1870.

And to a degree that is true. The trouble is that many take a literal view of scriptures instead of trying to find a message in them. The Quran was written for an educated audience to provide enlightenment to what was an otherwise pagan society. Sadly, a vast portion of the pan-Islamic world are uneducated and willing to believe anything that those who have an agenda other than striving to be a good person throw at them.

I'd have to disagree with that. Mohamed himself was probably illiterate. Tradition has it that the Koran was originally written on scraps of palm tree fiber, stone etc. and later written down by his followers.

As for the "otherwise pagan society" it was Jews and Christians, to which the Medina suras primarily deal. While much of the Koran comes from Arabian pagan beliefs and heretical Christian and Jewish legends, a good part of it is lifted and molded from Old Testament and New Testament scriptures, which of course are not pagan.

Mohamed is seen as the perfect example for a good Muslim to follow and his later visions supersede his former visions and these hold a sword more often than not. Coupled with the death penalty in many Islamic for converting away from Islam I would think it would take real courage to not be Muslim in a predominantly Muslim country.

BTW Susannah-Thanks for reposting this video. It has a timely message

It wasn't Jews and Christians primarily in the Arab world. Yes, Mohammed was uneducated, but the word is said to have come to him from God.

sorry to be splitting hairs here ...
They were not predominant but as I said, the parts of the Koran written in Medina were addressed to the Christian and Jewish tribes in the area, since Mohamed felt these were his best source of allies. Later, when patience ran out he chopped off their heads.

Yes, his revelations were supposedly divine in origin. But they were still written on the equivalent of the backs of old envelopes and post it notes and later put together by his followers. I'm not sure just how "educated" this group was.

BPB~ I'm not sure about the first part of what you said. I'd have to do more research in order to comment. However, "Sadly, a vast portion of the pan-Islamic world are uneducated and willing to believe anything that those who have an agenda...throw at them." --- I believe you're absolutely right on this part.

Eut! Glad you stopped by & commented. See, I knew this post would lead to some very interesting discussion. Thanks for your perspective.

"I would think it would take real courage to not be Muslim in a predominantly Muslim country."
Indeed.

And you're welcome. My husband says Allen West in 2012!

And you know, Lt.Col. West says "they've" been at this since 682 AD, but really, it all began w/ Isaac & Ishmael...That's how far back this thing goes -- for them. We do ourselves -- and the world -- a disservice if we fail to acknowledge the power of that fact.

God Bless Lt.Col Allen West.
We need more like him

We sure could many more great men like Col. West. Spot-on!

Fuzz! Isn't it the truth! Let's hope he had LOTS of kids underneath him before he retired, who learned the good lesson.

Leticia~ Great to see you! I KNOW! Somehow, with his candor, I think more & more will speak. Let's hope so...

Apparently the vast, overwhelming majority of Muslims are not very true to their faith.

EXACTLY what needs to be said, and repeated often!

There's a man who knows and is unafraid to speak the truth.

The last sentence of his speech mentions the objective: to secure western civilization.

I'm afraid it sounds a bit ridiculous as lieutenant West, like Obama, is of african descent and can hardly speak for the western civilization. He should limit himself on speaking about the security of America only.

Jim, dear~ It took exactly 18 'perverse Islamist extremists' to bring down the WTC. 18 (not counting the 100's-1,000's behind the scenes). IMO, that's 18 too many -- taking the Koran at it's word...

Mustang~ Thanks for coming by. Good to see you again! Aren't Lt.Col. West's words refreshing? Wish we would hear just one more person be so courageous as he.

Crucis~ Amen!! Thanks for stopping by.

Duta~ It may seem rediculous from your perspective. The vast difference between someone like Lt.Col. West & BHO is that West has an American heart & soul, no matter what his ancestry. BHO is decidedly NOT of the American spirit, as he has spoken/acted against the heart of America since before he took office. It has only gotten worse.

Lt. Col. West may speak for me, America & Western Civilization all day long, for he speaks the truth. And the truth MUST be told.

"It took exactly 18 'perverse Islamist extremists'"

EXACTLY! Thank you. Contradicts the dear light colonel.

...sadly, once again, our friend Jim doesn't get it. Most unfortunately, & Heaven help us, it's thinking such as his that will be the downfall of Western civilization. Heaven help us, indeed.

I get it just fine. I'm simply not obsessed with the fantasy that a billion A-rabs are going to land on our shores, stone our women, cut off our hands and heads and implement Sharia across our land.

I am concerned about extremism, especially extremism which manifests itself in attacks against US interests around the world. Since I pay attention to other media besides Fox "News", I understand that our government is also concerned with the threat and is doing everything it can to fight it and reduce the threat.

...a billion A-rabs are going to land on our shores, stone our women, cut off our hands and heads and implement Sharia across our land...

Your ridiculous charicature is insulting, & belies your insistence that you "get it."

Too bad for the rest of us. We need 'all hands on deck' to fight the ENEMY WE FACE: in our government, our courts, our towns, our schools, our churches, our neighborhoods....it really is too bad.

Jim said...

"Your ridiculous charicature [sic] is insulting"

It's not mine. It's Ingraham's, Hannity's, O'Reilly's, Malkin's and Limbaugh's.

And of course it is insulting.

Susannah said...

"It's not mine. It's Ingraham's, Hannity's, O'Reilly's, Malkin's and Limbaugh's"

I doubt that, seriously.

Even so, it certainly is not what Allen West said, nor what I (or anyone else here) said. So why bring it up, Jim, except to sling insulting cheap shots?

We 'get it.' You're stuck on Left-wing talking points. Time to move on & face reality.

Until we stop being afraid to offend anyone and everyone, Lt Col West's words will go unheeded. SO SAD!!!

Susannah said...

BetteJo~ You're right. That's why we need men/women of courage who are willing to speak out as he has.

Merry Christmas, all!
