Do You Hear the People Sing?

“Do you hear the people sing,
Singing the song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again.
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums,
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!"

December 16, 1773
Colonists disguised as Mohawk Indians dumped 342 chests of English tea in to Boston Harbor.

April 19, 1775
Revolutionary War began with the battles of Lexington and Concord.

July 4, 1776

Friends, this is who we come from. This is the stuff we’re made of…This is who we are.

We’re fighters , & we have an exquisite sense of fairness & justice. When we believe that sensibility has been trampled, we’re not afraid to stand up against those who’ve perpetrated the offense (April 15th, 2009).

We can do things others have said we can't...

July 3, 2004

or shouldn't...

WE ARE AMERICANS.

If we know who we are, we need to remember it now...

For SO many reasons, we need our heroes. We need US.

Can you hear it? Can you be it?

Do you hear the people sing?

Very good post, as usual. I may have to stop soon, there is too much stupidity in the United States.

I am truly grateful for all the people who have enabled me to have free speech and all thefreedom I enjoy today
I have to say that I am grateful for the Indian soldiers too because without them I would not have been able to be who I am,I would not have an education or even to be proud to be a woman.
And without the brave men and women here in the US,I would not have been able to be married to a wonderful man.I think of stuff like this when I am running.I am able to run in shorts sleeveless shirts and think of the women in the Muslim countries who cannot do stuff like that, they are covered up head to toe in the sweltering heat.Small things.....

Frasypoo, they seem small things, but they are parts of huge things. Freedom is a thread in everything we have and do in the U.S.A.

Thank you for letting us see your thoughts!

Great post.

The flood of memories that come from this clip. It was the second stage show I saw with my wife years ago.
(Cats was the first.)

I hear about half of the people singing.

Leslie~ Thanks. I appreciate your encouragement. And YES! My mom & I saw it in LONDON just after I graduated from college. My favorite musical; no question, hands down. My favorite thing about it is the theme of Grace running throughout. Marvelous.

Bluepit~ Thanks, you too, for the encouragement. "I may have to stop soon..." OH NO YOU DON'T!! Take some time out if you need it. Read other blogs, comment, but don't stop. We need your voice.

Scalawag~ Hey! Thought you'd like it! :)

Fras~ So glad to hear from you! "I am truly grateful for all the people who have enabled me to have free speech and all thefreedom I enjoy today" Me too. Leslie is right - they may seem small things, b/c we've never lived w/o that freedom...Unless we appreciate it (as you do) & are willing to stand up for it, it may very easily slip away. Keep it up, girls!

USA~ Thanks. The first one I saw was Little Shop of Horrors; not even close...

"I hear about half of the people singing."
Funny thing about music, it's contagious...

WHAT a post, Susannah..THANK you.
YOU know that I have posted that song twice...and will continue to do so....you fight with me, girl! I love that.
(can you listen without getting teary? let me know!)
I saw Les Ms here in LA, then in London, too....raunchier and even MORE wonderful a production there in London, by the way! It's my second favorite show next to My Fair Lady, which is saying a lot.

i'm writing on HEROES this week, funny enough...I hope you can come by and read it. (I hope I get it done! SO much to blog, so little room!)

Thank you, Susannah...I'm SO glad you came by and reminded me to come by; it is SO well worth it. It always is. Great job.

Frasypoo...your comment tells the story of America and makes us feel proud. Mostly, proud that YOU ARE HERE, dear girl. Thanks for that.

Susannah...this has nothing to do with Joe, because he seems to be doing very well, but your question about him reminded me of the story I posted about a year ago. I hope you enjoy reading it. it's all true.Seems fitting for Memorial Day.....My friend was such a patriot and I'm pretty sure he served our country, too. xxx

This is especially fitting for Memorial Day.

At the risk of sounding pessimistic, the saddest thing about The United States of America is that it seems like a near majority of her citizens and leaders no longer believe that the principles of liberty laid down in 1776 are worth dying for.

Thanks for the great Memorial Day post.

Z~ Thank YOU for the inspiration! "can you listen without getting teary? let me know"
It's not tears that get me, it's chill bumps...every single time!

Thank You -again- for coming here! I'll get over & read that other post ASAP. Oh, & aren't we lucky to have Fras!? She's fighting the fight right along w/ us!

Cap! Great to hear from you! Happy Memorial Day to you~

JOE!!! SO GLAD YOU'RE HERE!!! We've all been concerned about you & praying for you. Heard news trickling out that you were doing okay, but - wow - is it good to see your icon there! :)

"citizens and leaders no longer believe that the principles of liberty laid down in 1776 are worth dying for"
Keep your chin up, too, friend. I'm keeping my $$ on the tide turning - ever so slowly...
