Norman M. Thomas: We were warned!

Norman Mattoon Thomas (Nov. 20, 1884 - Dec. 19, 1968)
was a leading American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential
candidate for the Socialist Party of America. He was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1911. He was also active in setting up the American Civil Liberties Union.

As a candidate for President of the U. S. , Norman Thomas said, in a 1944 epoch speech:

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism', they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."

He went on to say: "I no longer need to run as a Presidential candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform."

Friends, we were warned. We're now watching it happen. We MUST stop this self-fulfilling prophecy. Speak, write, email, call your elected representatives. NOW!

How anyone, pre-election, could be oblivious to what was to come under the Obama administration, is beyond me. I said on election night, and I say it now. I will have no sympathy when those that elected him come back later and whine about what developes. We were all warned-some just didn't want to listen.

Heck, he wasn't the only one. But, good information.

The thing is - socialism doesn't work, why do people want to keep trying it? I just don't get it.

did you know he's Evan Thomas (Newsweek)'s grandfather...yup, and there's a PUBLIC high school named after an avowed socialist? I actually called the NYC high school and asked "Are you a public school?" yup.

It is all about the corruption of society. That is how it happens.

Great post Susannah.

I told my husband, we are on the threshold of socialism, now it's how far into the room we walk.

Mary~ Great to see you! "How anyone, pre-election, could be oblivious to what was to come under the Obama administration, is beyond me." I think, in part, it was b/c our Media almost entirely suspended all journalistic curiousity about him. They didn't ask hard questions, & when they saw red-flag warnings, they dismissed them altogether. Sad.

Bluepit~ I'm sure you're right, I just don't know the others. Interesting that he was a Presbyt. minister. I get shivers when I hear the Methodists talk about 'social justice' too.

BetteJo~ People want it, I think b/c human nature wants the path of least resistance (want something for nothing). But you're right - there ain't no such thing as a free lunch. SOMEBODY's got to pay for it (that would be you & me).

Z!~ Great to hear from you (we've been CRAZY busy w/ swim team, etc.)!

"did you know he's Evan Thomas (Newsweek)'s grandfather" No I didn't. Explains a lot, doesn't it? And the school...YIKES!! I'm proud to say, though, that the new High School in our county is Ronald W. Reagan High School. Yup! :)

USA~ I think you're right. Immediate, easy gratification of the lowest common denominator. Then the one who threatens to take it away becomes the enemy of the masses. Thank you for coming by.

Pam~ I'd like to turn around & run the other direction, slamming the door behind me.

Now, how do we get those that need it to press 1 for understanding. :0)

This windbag above me seems to be everywhere, just like Flies on horse manure!

Bryan~ yep, good info. I got it from my Dad. I think he's pleased that I posted it! Too good not to, I think.

Bob~ Yep, I noticed. Did you see my post below about Contessa Brewer & John Zeigler? I was inspired by you & linked to your post. Thanks, btw. :)

You bet, Mac. They don't see it, b/c they didn't want to, imo. It's pretty hard to deny now, though, huh?
