Klavan is SO good! I watch him as often as I can.
Actually, I think his cousin Cliff makes much more sense.
By your definition I suppose John McCain is an elite. And Newt Gingrich is an elite. And John Boehner and Mitch McConnell are elites. And the Palins and Pauls and Millers and Angles who won't take questions from just anyone are elites. Dick Morris is an elite. And Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity are elites. And Mitt Romney is an elite. And the Koch brothers and Richard Mellon Scaife are elites. And Dennis Miller is an elite. And Dick Armey is an elite.
These people all think they're endowed with some insight that qualifies them to tell you how to think, what to believe and what to hate. Isn't that pretty much your definition of elite? And Klavan's?

Jim~ My definition? Nah, I didn't define anything in this post. And just so you know, I have met & chatted w/ Dick Armey personally...he's no 'elite,' that's for certain; very, very nice man, & extremely approachable.
Since you claim to miss Klavan's point, you reveal your inability to detect nuance...(though, knowing you like I do, I suspect your faking...)
Well my definition of "elite" is the choice or best of anything considered collectively, as of a group or class of persons.
Your meeting with Dick implies that one cannot be among the best of a group of persons and be "very nice" and "approachable".
The problem is that the blame stream media (my new name for Fox, Rush, et al) have mis-appropriated a word with highly positive connotation and foisted it upon the ignorant to demonize people they disagree with politically and philosophically.
Well ignorance is bliss, I guess. But for facts, I think I'll stick with Cliff.
I would add to his list the word 'infantile'. Look what they've elected for their president. The damage done by the mere election of Obama is irreparable.

Jim, there you go being tedious again...nuance, Jim. The word is n-u-a-n-c-e.
My meeting w/ Dick Armey implies what I meant for it to; that he is a man of great influence, but simultaneously not considering himself above or greater than every day people, as evidenced by his easy-going carriage. Every one of Klavan's examples show the inverse, as evidenced by their smug disdain, even vitriol, for the Great Unwashed.
DUTA~ Infantile for a time, yes. But I think many of them have grown up very quickly.

I'm counting on this not being the case. I certainly hope we can do some repairing in the next several years.

Double standard, no? Duta can imply that those of us who elected the president are infantile ("Look what they've elected for their president"), but my implication that Duta's words suggest he is infantile gets deleted.

BHO is president of the whole US, no? Therefore, the "they" to whom Duta was referring was our populace, not an individual. Your insult was to her as an individual. Not gonna have it, Jim.
