I was Tagged!

Okay, so about 5 days ago, Z "tagged" me! Since she's been blogging a lot longer than I have, I wasn't real sure what this meant. (Whew! It doesn't mean that I've got some computer virus, as I at first feared!)

It means that I'm supposed to tell you & her 8 random thoughts or factoids about me. So this oughta be an interesting exercise (for me, at least...):

1) I don't usually get writer's block on my blog unless I'm asked to write about myself or personal things about my life. You may've noticed I don't do that much. There's a reason for that: so far they're all nameless & they'd prefer to stay that way.

2) Like Z, I LOVE music! All kinds except maybe heavy metal & rap. I'm a singer - not professional - please! My singing is worth about what most people have ever paid for it! :) But I LOVE to sing!

3) I was a soccer player as a kid & in college. I turned in my cleats for running shoes, & ran on my own for years. Hey, it was cheap & easy! In the past 8 months, I've hung up the running shoes (maybe temporarily, maybe for longer) in favor of Pilates & Les Mills "BodyFlow" classes. Pilates has been excellent for muscle tone, core strength & flexibility. BodyFlow is this WONDERFUL combination of Yoga, Tai Chi & Pilates. It is a wonderfully strenuous experience that ends in a 10 minute meditation time. I use it most times for calming my mind, my body & for prayer.

4) I don't watch much TV. Contrary to what some of my recent visitors might believe, I don't even watch much Fox News. I will confess, though, I LOVE American Idol, The Biggest Loser & Medium. My favorite AI is David Cook. I thought Danny Gokey should've won this year. I thought either Tara or the young kid should've won Biggest Loser this time, not the blond mom who sent her overweight daughter home. My husband & I tape Medium every week @ watch it together - we get SUCH a kick out of the looks on Joe's face when he's awoken from dead sleep by Allison's nightmares! Ha!

5) I'm an avid gardener. My Grandmother, whose flowers comprise most of what I've got in my flower beds, used to tell me it was her 'therapy'. She also told me that gardening was a spiritual experience for her, that it taught her a lot about who God is, always making things new - bringing new life to once dead things. She was a quiet, wise, dear, loving woman. I miss her still. Sometimes when I'm in amongst her flowers, I feel her presence move through me & it takes my breath.

6) My favorite person in this whole wide world is my husband. He is the love of my life. He is my true soul mate, & the longer I know him the deeper I love him. The older we get, the more he surprises me with who he is; the more he surprises me with who I am as a result of his influence in my life. He is everything to me. We'll celebrate 17 years of marriage in June. God is so very good, friends.

7) I'm the youngest of 3 children. I have 2 older brothers - which may explain some things...! My oldest brother is retired Coast Guard. My middle brother is the Pastor of a new AMIA church 'plant'. I'm a stay at home mom with a career-on-hold as a Master's level Licensed Professional Counselor. It remains to be seen if I will further pursue this career in mental health counseling.

8) My dog is another one of my favorite people! And I am really, really enjoying getting to know my new blogging friends! I so enjoy your blogs, your visits here & the rapport we're all building. Thanks so much for your friendships!

Same-Sex 'Marriage' & Supreme Courts: II

My new friend Shaw asked me some interesting questions in her comment to 5-27-09's “Thanks CA Supreme Court”:

She says,
“I don't understand why you would label couples as ‘cheaters’ when they were married legally…before Prop 8 was passed. How do you reckon they ‘cheated’?”

My friend continues,
“And you [would] label the legal same-sex marriages in IA, MA, VT, NH, and ME as ‘cheaters’ too?”

These are very interesting questions, deserving of a sincere & thoughtful answer. So Shaw, this one’s for you & thanks for being a catalyst.

My use of “cheaters” in the 5-27 post is part euphemistic, part literal. “Cheaters” evokes images of games, the purpose of which was to simplify & illustrate a complex concept. In a literal sense the word “cheaters” does not apply, as Shaw points out, because those who got ‘married’ where same-sex ‘marriage’ is/was legal haven’t technically ‘cheated’.

My contention is, however, that same-sex ‘marriage’ itself cheats our culture in a most profound way. It has created a moral & spiritual crisis by attempting to redefine the most elemental, Sacred relationship in our society, thereby enfeebling our entire culture. The questions remind me of an editorial I wrote in 2004, just after the MA Supreme court circumvented the people of MA & made same-sex 'marriage' legal.

Defining Marriage

Marriage is a historical social & religious institution between one man & one woman. Its origin precedes our society & has universal global significance. It was not created by any branch of the American government, nor by our great Constitution. It crosses all cultures & has extended back through human existence for thousands of years.

Now, a Massachusetts courtroom has decided that this archetypal institution is ill defined, & has declared it invalid. The arrogance here is astounding. If it weren’t so audacious, it might even be comical. But it is not funny, & it is not okay. This court asserts that the historically rooted institution of marriage will not ‘pass Constitutional muster’ because it discriminates (like a clock salesman calling foul on the 24-hour day, saying it discriminates against the time-challenged).

For years, special interest groups & their lawyers have cited ‘separation of church & state’ to tease out Faith from the public arena at every turn. Now they’re using legal marriage – where State & Faith meet - to contort our society with their own prejudicial agenda. The State, which has pried out all things sacred, is now presuming authority to force civil “rites” into the sacred. The State, essentially, is assuming the power to define & override Sacrament.

It is time to speak up. The cultural movement represented in the Massachusetts courtroom accomplishes its work through the back door of the Constitution. No lawmaker or voter is ever consulted when law is created in a courtroom. In essence, we citizens are stripped of our representative and individual voices. We are left mute and powerless while outrageous counterculture ideas are made law. The good news is that the same Constitution that has been so egregiously manipulated is the same great document which guarantees each & every one of us a voice. It is now time to be heard.

So the voices of California were heard, finally. And their Court decided, this time, to abstain from silencing them. Hallelujah!

Our friend is right, though: other states have voiced differently. If we’re talking about legality, then gay ‘married’ people haven’t cheated the law in those states. But if we’re talking about morality & the spiritual health of our nation, then the ones we’re really cheating are ourselves.

And then there’s God.

Thanks CA Supreme Court; I think.

Congratulations are in order for California! (I think.)

Their state Supreme Court actually held to the people’s will, sort of.

On Tuesday, May 26th, The Foundry reports, “the California Supreme Court disappointed advocates of same-sex marriage by concluding that Proposition 8 was a valid exercise by California voters of their right to amend their constitution. Today’s decision means Prop. 8 stands as an important victory for the 7 million Californians who worked hard to protect marriage as the union of husband & wife..."

Don’t remember Proposition 8? A little history then…See, one of the best Unintended Consequences of November’s election was that a “ban on gay marriage [aka Proposition 8] passed in CA, AZ & FL.” The delicious irony is that the Left’s insatiable drive to elect Mr. Obama led to the success of Prop. 8. It won “largely due to the turnout of African Americans -yes, Obama voters largely- who are not up for any kind of massive shift to the left, it seems.”

The price of the measure's success, however, has been high. The Foundry reminds us: “many individuals and institutions that supported Proposition 8 have been targeted for reprisals and intimidation. Some Prop 8 supporters have been pressured out of their jobs; some have had their businesses targeted…churches have been vandalized…and suspicious white powder was sent to certain Mormon temples. [Also] some individuals who supported Prop 8 have even received death threats.”

Which brings me to Unintended Consequence of November’s election #2 & the “I think” part of the Court’s decision: “The election of Mr. Obama has sewn up a seam between the Far Left fringe & the left-of-center. The Far Left has…poured in torrents onto the Culture War battlefield…Their actions have been worse than vandalism & protesting, friends. It's domestic terrorism…Do they believe they're entitled, because they identify w/ the most left-wing presidential candidate we've ever seen?” It’s a question that at least bears some thought, if not outright endorsement.

Meanwhile back at the Court, while the Justices were magnanimous enough to yield to the will of the people from hence forward, they ruled as valid “the 18,000 same-sex marriages performed before Prop 8 passed. So, while the will of the people was heard in part, it seems that the Court has left some cards on the table. With the world watching, they were forced to play by the rules of the game (We won!), but then allowed cheaters to win anyway (I think).

Where does that leave us, folks? Still on the battlefield; with a war for the essence of our culture – the very soul of our dear nation - in front of us.

But today, let’s say a big THANKS to the California Supreme Court! As for the “I think;” we’ll just address that tomorrow…

Do You Hear the People Sing?

“Do you hear the people sing,
Singing the song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again.
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums,
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!"

Mr. Cheney calls Obamanation Family Meeting.

Friends, sometimes it’s just time to call the meeting to order.

If you’ve got kids, you know sometimes they think they’re too cool & wise, too sophisticated for parents. They fancy themselves knowing more than you do. They’re determined to do it their way - to cut a new swath through brambles & briers instead of taking the solid path prepared by those who have trod before – & learned. As parents, we approach this attitude with patience, with compassion (usually), & always with love. In the process, we absorb the sideways glares & stomps of feet, the huffs & sighs. We’ve been there, & we know that the careful dismantling of ignorance will afford the child growth. Our perspective is wide. We can see the path for the briers & we know that the family will be stronger for it.

Former VP Dick Cheney offered Obamanation the voice of the steady parent today. My sense is that his vast experience as Secretary of Defense & as VP during 9-11, etc. made Mr. Cheney more-than-weary of the irresponsible & even infantile approach to this administration’s early Defense & Foreign Policies. I believe that like a wise parent, he decided it was time to call a family meeting, time to smack some hands & lay out a lesson. And like a wise parent, he had more than just the one child in mind, he was speaking for the good of the Family.

Thus the meeting was called to order. So if you missed it, take a seat on the sofa & listen carefully to a replay of what Dad had to say:

“Your kind invitation brings me here as a private citizen - a career in politics behind me, no elections to win or lose, and no favor to seek…

When President Obama makes wise decisions, as I believe he has done in some respects on Afghanistan, and in reversing his plan to release incendiary photos, he deserves our support. And when he faults or mischaracterizes the national security decisions we made in the Bush years, he deserves an answer. The point is not to look backward…A lot rides on our President's understanding of the security policies that preceded him. And whatever choices he makes concerning the defense of this country, those choices should not be based on slogans and campaign rhetoric, but on a truthful telling of history.

Our administration always faced its share of criticism, and from some quarters it was always intense. That was especially so in the later years of our term, when the dangers were as serious as ever, but the sense of general alarm after September 11th, 2001 was a fading memory. Part of our responsibility, as we saw it, was not to forget the terrible harm that had been done to America … and not to let 9/11 become the prelude to something much bigger and far worse…

We did all of these things, and with bipartisan support put all these policies in place. It has resulted in serious blows against enemy operations … the take-down of the A.Q. Khan network … and the dismantling of Libya's nuclear program…Well over seven years into the effort, one thing we know is that the enemy has spent most of this time on the defensive - and every attempt to strike inside the United States has failed.

So we're left to draw one of two conclusions - and here is the great dividing line in our current debate over national security. 1) You can look at the facts and conclude that the comprehensive strategy has worked, and therefore needs to be continued as vigilantly as ever. 2) Or you can look at the same set of facts and conclude that 9/11 was a one-off event - coordinated, devastating, but also unique and not sufficient to justify a sustained wartime effort. Whichever conclusion you arrive at, it will shape your entire view of the last seven years, and of the policies necessary to protect America for years to come.

The key to any strategy is accurate intelligence, and skilled professionals to get that information in time to use it. In seeking to guard this nation against the threat of catastrophic violence, our Administration gave intelligence officers the tools and lawful authority they needed to gain vital information. We didn't invent that authority. It is drawn from Article Two of the Constitution. And it was given specificity by the Congress after 9/11, in a Joint Resolution authorizing "all necessary and appropriate force" to protect the American people.

Our government prevented attacks and saved lives through the Terrorist Surveillance Program…

[The NY Times published] secrets in a way that could only help al-Qaeda. It impressed the Pulitzer committee, but it damn sure didn't serve the interests of our country, or the safety of our people.

In the years after 9/11, our government also understood that the safety of the country required collecting information known only to the worst of the terrorists. And in a few cases, that information could be gained only through tough interrogations…The interrogations were used on hardened terrorists after other efforts failed. They were legal, essential, justified, successful, and the right thing to do. The intelligence officers who questioned the terrorists can be proud of their work and proud of the results, because they prevented the violent death of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of innocent people.

Our successors in office have their own views on all of these matters. By presidential decision, last month we saw the selective release of documents relating to enhanced interrogations… The released memos were carefully redacted to leave out references to what our government learned through the methods in question…For reasons the administration has yet to explain, they believe the public has a right to know the method of the questions, but not the content of the answers….

Some [Democrats] are even demanding that those who recommended and approved the interrogations be prosecuted, in effect treating political disagreements as a punishable offense, and political opponents as criminals. It's hard to imagine a worse precedent, filled with more possibilities for trouble and abuse, than to have an incoming administration criminalize the policy decisions of its predecessors.

Apart from doing a serious injustice to intelligence operators and lawyers who deserve far better for their devoted service, the danger here is a loss of focus on national security, and what it requires. I would advise the administration to think very carefully about the course ahead. All the zeal that has been directed at interrogations is utterly misplaced. And staying on that path will only lead our government further away from its duty to protect the American people…
He continues, laying out part of the supporting facts to that which he has just asserted, then pulls no punches...

The [Obama] administration seems to pride itself on searching for some kind of middle ground in policies addressing terrorism. They may take comfort in hearing disagreement from opposite ends of the spectrum. If liberals are unhappy about some decisions, and conservatives are unhappy about other decisions, then it may seem to them that the President is on the path of sensible compromise. But in the fight against terrorism, there is no middle ground, and half-measures keep you half exposed…There is never a good time to compromise when the lives and safety of the American people are in the balance.

The administration has found that it's easy to receive applause in Europe for closing Guantanamo…I think the President will find, upon reflection, that to bring the worst of the worst terrorists inside the United States would be cause for great danger and regret in the years to come.

Mr. Cheney, in his ever nuanced & subtle style, then smacks Mr. O & his Main Stream Media co-conspirators right between the eyes:

In the category of euphemism, the prizewinning entry would be a recent editorial in a familiar newspaper that referred to terrorists we've captured as, quote, "abducted." Here we have ruthless enemies of this country, stopped in their tracks by brave operatives…& a major editorial page makes them sound like they were kidnap victims, picked up at random on their way to the movies…

For all that we've lost in this conflict, the United States has never lost its moral bearings. And when the moral reckoning turns to the men known as high-value terrorists, I can assure you they were neither innocent nor victims. As for those who asked them questions and got answers: they did the right thing, they made our country safer, and a lot of Americans are alive today because of them.”

In his evenhanded, no-nonsense way, & after thanking many fine Americans for their service, Mr. Cheney thus called the meeting adjourned. His speech was targeted, measured & delivered with the weight & seriousness that its subject requires.

Based on observances Mr. Obama, heretofore, fancies himself too cool & wise, too sophisticated for the lessons that the Bush Years could teach him. He has glared & stomped, huffed & sighed; & has proceeded to make egregious posturing errors in his first 100 days, belying the suave, seasoned exterior he has so carefully cobbled & crafted these bygone years.

In matters of Defense & Foreign Policy, this nascent President & his slew of media sycophants would be wise to listen to the reproaches & lessons this wise parent has offered. Because in this area, I’m sure the parent cares for the his well-being & growth, but I’m absolutely certain that the lessons were delivered for the greater love of the Whole Family.

What will the Obamanation do with the lessons enumerated for them today? Like a rebellious adolescent, they could ignore it, & get themselves (& us) into a dark & dangerous snare. Or, they could let it sink in, allow it to dismantle ignorance, & foster growth which leads to the solid path. Let’s hope, for the good of the Family, they choose the latter.

all a-Twitter, without a clue...

Hi friends~ Help me, please. I'm an unlicensed driver in a car with no brakes...

I was in getting my hair cut the other day, & it was one of those looooong appointments. (Okay, so it wasn't just a cut. I have' natural highlights' that have begun to grace my mass of curls. First it was one, two...now it's one-thousand, two-thousand...) Anyway, Mark - who is a master of camouflaging natural highlights - & I were using this loooong appointment to talk about his mission work, & the technology his crew uses to document trips.

It was his fault. He said I needed to set up a Twitter account for this blog. I figure he knows what he's talking about, so I did. So, if you got an invitation from Twitter, from me, then it's legit. But I'm an unlicensed driver in a car with no brakes - who hasn't started the engine yet...

That's where you come in. I don't mean to sound ignorant, but I'm willing to admit my limits. Can anyone tell me what this means? What do you do with Twitter? What's the best way to make use of such a thing - for blogging purposes? I know BarryO has it, but I'm not sure how he uses it...maybe I should ask him...?

Oh, & I should say, I have absolutely no interest in standing in line @ the grocery store & telling everyone what I've got in my cart, what magazines are at the checkout, what candybar I'm tempted by, or any other such nonsense... I'm only interested in how it could be useful to this blog...IF it could be useful to this blog. If not, that account's gonna get pretty dusty. Because who has time to text about groceries when you've got a hungry family waiting @ home? Sheesh!

Any comments would help me keep it b'tween the ditches.

Sunday Inspiration: Remain in My Love

Hi friends~
It's Sunday night here, but here's how my day started:

John 15:9-17
9 "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I
chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.
17 This is my command: Love each other.

...& the prayer that was laid on my heart with it:

"Oh Lord, help us to open our eyes, our ears, our hearts, our spirits to Your Love.
You are closer than our next breath–always–and yet we can’t or don’t seem to remember that.
Lord, forgive our willfulness, our forgetfulness.
Give us hearts that remember your love for us.
Give us spirits that are aware of Your Spirit & wills that choose obedience.
Help us to remain in Your presence & not get distracted so easily.
For it’s in You that we find true Joy, true Hope, & divine Rest for our weary souls.
Help us to remain in Your love & walk in the words You taught us to pray..."

May this part of His Word & these words be a blessing to your heart.

Obama-Taxes, Chavez-Sykes, & Garbage Trucks.

I haven’t written this week, but instead have used my scant free time to read: blogs, comments, & a fascinating book on Men’s Health.

What I’ve seen is that a lot of friends out there are getting discouraged. They’re seeing things like our President hugging & doing gangsta handshakes w/ notorious fascist dictators. They’re hearing the same man say that fixing what’s been broken by overspending requires spending even more; or that what we thought was our Christian nation – really isn’t. We’ve heard him make self-aggrandizing jokes @ the expense of Special Olympians & watched him chortle merrily as a famous-yet-uncouth comedienne publicly wishes the slow & painful death of a political adversary…

All this has a way of pi$$ing a person off (at best), or (even worse) darkening one’s spirit to the point of giving up. It seems to keep getting worse, doesn’t it, friends?

Let me introduce you to my new friend, Jan. I found her through DD2’s comments, & she has a interesting things to say. But her May 2nd post struck me at a fresh angle this morning. It gave me encouragement & buoyed my sense of mission here. She quotes David J. Pollay’s “Beware of Garbage Trucks”:

"How often do you let other people's nonsense change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive employee ruin your day? …The mark of a successful person is how quickly she can get back her focus on what's important...

Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And if you let them, they'll dump it on you. When someone wants to dump on you, don't take it personally. You just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on…The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day…”

Please don’t get me wrong. We’d be a little crazy if the current situation were NOT making us a little crazy. We DO need to take breaks, pull away from it & find encouragement. We need to take care of ourselves, like our friend DD2 is doing.

All the while we need to remember that we are not throw ourselves under the garbage truck. We’re not to let it dump on us, & we’re not to let its cloud of dust & debris fall over our lives. We have the option of smiling, waving & letting it move down the road. After all, it’s NOT OUR TRUCK! And eventually it will run out of gas.

When we choose to let it pass & we watch its brake lights flicker in the distance, we would be wise to turn around, find our friends & remember who we are.

Nice analogy, the truck. It fits nicely here, & we can make real good use of it in the current climate.

But as Jan says, “The above is good advice, but this is better:
‘Come unto Me, all you who are weary & heavy laden,
& I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.’
~Matthew 11:28-29

Amen, sister.

Sunday Inspiration: Happy Mother's Day!

…from Proverbs 31
“A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her, and lacks nothing of value.
She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life...
She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:
‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all’
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised...”

My family overflows with women of Godly & noble character who loved me, nurtured me & taught me how to be the same. I am truly blessed. The one & only Original is my mother, Lillian. She is the one who is spoken of in Proverbs 31, & I am forever blessed to be her daughter.

If you’ve read my archives, or been following since the beginning, you know that the end of my first post speaks of the ‘sarah palins’ in my life. While I count several dear friends in this group, these ladies are my foundation: Lillian, Mabel, Betty; Suzanne, Susie, Frances, & then my Faye. No other girl had more richness of womanhood in her life, of that I’m sure. To all of them, including friends, thank you, thank you, thank you; from the deepest place in my heart.

Happy Mother's Day!

National Day of Prayer: Part II

“Obama Sits out National Day of Prayer as Millions Pray for him.”

So said the title of an article I saw while researching this. I’ve already done the piece that tags him for it…but just, if you will, read that line one more time & let the irony sink in…

Let me be clear. Mr. Obama is not the end-all-be-all to the spiritual life of our nation. Far from it. What is the hope for our nation’s spiritual health? It certainly isn’t with our political leaders, though they can lend credence, or not, to what average folk are trying to live.

Allow me to share a bit of what Beth Moore said in a NDofP promotional video. She says,

“We are people that are in trouble, we are people that are vulnerable. We are people that are no longer secure in ourselves, but there is an answer. And prayer is the way we seek that answer. Our security & our hope is in our God, & our God is still with us. His question to us today is are we still with Him?"

Addressing a crowd of thousands on the Capitol grounds, Mrs. Moore focused on four themes for times of crisis.

* "Look at what God has already done," she said. "Look at his Word from Genesis to Revelation and think as wide and broad as you can and petition God to show his power," Moore said, "the way he did for Abraham, Paul, Silas, Timothy…"

* "One day of corporate prayer offered in sincerity, unity and humility can have a titanic effect, not only to the immediacy of need, but for generations to come," Moore said. "Our nation does not need us to lose our faith, even when there are those who vehemently oppose us. They are
greatly affected by our prayers; they just don't know that. We've got to resist cynicism and defeatism."

* "God esteems a faithful remnant. Let the remnant pray like crazy, and they will be heard," she said. "No one and nothing can keep us from revival, but we ourselves."

* "God holds his people responsible for righteousness, not results. The moment you & I obey God, we are a success!" she said.

Be encouraged, friends. As Mrs. Moore said, God "has not given up on this nation. We're not in a godforsaken world, after all. As the remnant cries out, he hears us!"

And I believe her. More importantly, I believe HIM! God has not forsaken us, dear friends. Believe with me, & let us claim ourselves that faithful remnant.

Claim it; then live it!

God esteems faithfulness, obedience.

We are to be obedient.

We are to be faithful.

We are to PRAY LIKE CRAZY!!

Obama diminishes National Day of Prayer

So this is where the rubber meets the road, friends.

If you don’t believe that secularists in government are pushing God out of the public square, then here you have it from the horse's mouth himself. President Obama – secularist - has taken it upon himself to disengage himself & his staff from Official Observance of the National Day of Prayer .

Established in 1952, by the Truman administration, then strengthened & fashioned into an honored tradition by subsequent Presidents, the National Day of Prayer is marked by a myriad events throughout the nation’s capitol on the 1st Thursday in May each year. The White House has traditionally marked the day with an interfaith service somewhere on the grounds, but not Mr. Obama's White House. Not only is the White House stepping away from it, they’re not even sending a scout from the Executive Team to the main event on Capitol Hill, according to CNN’s Kristi Keck . Here's how low this goes: even during the Clinton Administration, task-force leaders held low-profile observances, including some at Lafayette Park across the street from the White House.

Mr. Obama’s reasoning for dismissing the National Day of Prayer?

~ Pause ~

(I can hear the Lefties squealing all the way from here…*sigh*…So, yes; this morning after rolling out of bed & eating his Wheaties, Mr. O signed a piece of paper saying it’s National Prayer Day. Okay. So?)

~ Back to my point:

The President’s Press Secretary says that prayer is a private matter to Mr. O. Indeed it can be; but herein lies my problem… Our President can publicly bow (with the WORLD watching) to a Saudi King (who has zero investment in America’s welfare), but can’t publicly bow his head to God Almighty, whose very name appears (for now) on our currency & Who we (for now) acknowledge in our pledge of national allegiance? Can Mr. O not even send a member of his Exec. Staff to the Capitol as a proxy? Isn’t there even a Page, an intern or an elementary-school-kid-on-a-field-trip who can skip over to the Capitol & at least grab a biscuit off the buffet while Beth Moore says a prayer?

If our Nation’s executive office eschews observance of the day our nation sets aside for recognizing the power of prayer, then why should we get involved? If our secularist President -- whose every move is as choreographed as it is scrutinized -- doesn’t think his country & her people’s public acknowledgement of God is worth even a few minutes of silence in the Rose Garden, well, then why should we care?

And that’s my point. Exactly.

The rubber has met the road, friends. I think there may be skid marks.

Sunday inspiration.

My friends, Mr. & Mrs. Z, do what they call a 'Sunday Faith Blog' each week. I visited them first thing this morning. (I do mean first thing; before everybody was up at my house. It was only me & Otis, w/ our Bible & this laptop.) This week's Sunday Faith blog is really beautiful, & visitors have shared scripture in the comments. Please pay them a visit. I promise; it will be a blessing.

Because of my friends, I've been inspired to do the same thing on Sundays (thanks, Z!). Recent Big Ideas have centered on God's existence & His magnificent creation. Our discussion gave me a revived appreciation for one of my IPod favorites. Take a look/listen below to Chris Tomlin's, "Indescribable."

Now, as they say, "If that don't light your fire, then yer kindlin's wet."
